Permanent Laser Hair Removal

Excessive hair growth oftentimes causes us embarrassment. Hard as we try to shave every day or wax and thread regularly, those tasks cannot be possibly done as often as necessary. There will always be times when we need to cover or hide unsightly hairs. These are moments when we wished that such unwanted hairs were gone for good, but how?

Fortunately, the latest in technology has brought to us laser hair removal treatment; and, yes, the benefits are permanent in hair reduction!

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

Through a process called selective photothermolysis, laser light is used to inhibit the growth of hair in treated areas. A handheld device is used to deliver a single-wavelength of coherent light into the skin.

The pigment melanin is present both in the skin and hair. Because the darker hair is more pigmented than the skin, it absorbs more of the focused light which converts to heat energy and thermally destroys the hair cells at the root of the hair.

Why are multiple treatments needed?

When laser is applied to a certain area, it affects only those hairs that are actively growing at that time. Hair goes through a growth cycle and can be in any of these phases – active growth phase (anagen), regression phase (catagen), or resting phase (telogen). When laser reaches hairs in their catagen or telogen phase, it has no impact on these hairs. Therefore, treatment has to be repeated when these hairs move to the anagen phase, and that happens at around 4-6 weeks later. Again, not all previously inactively-growing hairs become active by that time. This means that the treatment has to be done again until all the hairs shall have been affected by laser and lose their ability to regrow. The full course of the treatment must be completed to attain optimal permanent hair reduction result.

How many treatments are necessary and what is the frequency of the sessions?

Different people require different number of treatments, depending on their hair and skin characteristics.

Different body areas to be treated will also differ in the number of treatments required. On the average, we recommend 6-8 treatments per area.

Sessions are normally 4-6 weeks apart.

What is the usual duration of a treatment session?

The time it takes for a session depends on the size of the area being treated. Removal of hair on the upper lip will take around 5 minutes, while treatment of a man’s chest will take around 30 minutes.

What areas of the body are suitable for laser hair removal treatment?

Any part of the body where there is unwanted hair, except those very near the eyes, can be treated effectively using the latest in laser hair removal systems. Women normally want flawlessly smooth face and body. For female clients, we regularly treat the following areas – upper lip, neck, underarm, arm, leg, thigh, and bikini line. Brazilian style is a popular request from clients, too.

Men often request for treatment of facial hairs, such as beard and sideburns, and larger body areas, such as the chest, back and full arms and legs.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is virtually painless. Except for a mild tingling sensation, there is none of the pain associated with electrolysis, waxing or threading.

How long is the recovery period?

There is actually no recovery period. It is quite common for clients to visit us for their appointments during lunch breaks from work or home routines. Their usual schedules go on uninterrupted because there’s practically no downtime.

What are the side effects?

Side effects are very rare. Clients may experience temporary redness on the treated area, but this is a normal skin reaction that subsides in a few hours.

How will I know if I am a suitable candidate for laser hair reduction?
